Privacy policy

Last updated: October 2026

This policy explains how Ozautoelectrics Pty Ltd, ABN 43 142 223 792 (“we”, “us”) handles personal information collected through Auto Electrical Australia at blog.autoelectricalaustralia.com.au (the “site”). We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect

  • Member accounts: your username, email address, password (stored encrypted), and anything you add to your profile, such as your name.
  • Forum posts and messages: what you post or send through the site, and the date, time and IP address it was sent from.
  • Contact enquiries: the details you give us when you contact us.
  • Marketing choices: whether you’ve agreed to receive emails from us, and when.
  • Usage information: pages viewed, the device and browser you use, your approximate location (city level) and your IP address, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

We don’t ask for sensitive information, such as health details, and please don’t include it in posts. You can read the site without giving us your name, and you can use a username that isn’t your real name.

How we collect it

Mostly directly from you, when you register, post or contact us. Usage information is collected automatically through cookies, including by Google (see below). Occasionally we may receive information about you from someone else, for example if another member mentions you in a post or reports a post.

How we use it

  • to run the site, your account and the forum, moderate posts, and keep them secure, including blocking spam;
  • to reply to enquiries;
  • to understand how the site is used and improve the guides;
  • to show advertising;
  • to send you emails about your account, such as password resets and replies to your posts;
  • if you choose to receive them, to send you updates and offers from Ozautoelectrics, including from our online stores and city auto electrical sites.

We don’t sell your personal information. We don’t use automated systems to make decisions that significantly affect you. Automated spam filters may hold or block a post or sign-up, and a person can review this if you contact us.

Marketing emails

We only send marketing emails if you’ve agreed to receive them, for example by ticking a box when you sign up. Every marketing email identifies us and has an unsubscribe link. You can unsubscribe at any time, and we’ll act on it within 5 working days. You don’t need to log in to unsubscribe. Unsubscribing doesn’t stop emails about your account. You can also ask us where we got your details.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

The site uses cookies, which are small files stored by your browser. Some are needed to keep you logged in. Others are used for analytics and advertising.

  • Google Analytics: we use Google Analytics to see how visitors use the site. It uses cookies to collect information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, your device and browser, and your approximate location, and sends it to Google, which processes it to give us reports. We don’t use it to identify you. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Google AdSense: third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some other vendors’ personalised ad cookies at aboutads.info.

Learn more at How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser; some site features may not work without them.

Who we share it with

  • service providers who help us run the site, such as web hosting, email and analytics providers;
  • Google, for analytics and advertising, as described above;
  • other Ozautoelectrics websites, including our city auto electrical sites and online stores, where you use the same account or ask us to;
  • police, regulators or courts where required or allowed by law, or to deal with a legal claim about a post.

Information stored outside Australia

Some of our service providers store or process information overseas. Google may process information in the United States and other countries where it operates. Our web host and email provider store data in Australia. We take reasonable steps to make sure these providers protect your information.

Forum posts are public

Your username and anything you post in the forum can be seen by anyone, and may appear in search engines. Don’t post personal details such as your phone number, address or registration number. Private messages aren’t public, but site administrators can see them to deal with spam or abuse.

Keeping it safe

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access or disclosure. We keep it only as long as we need it, then delete or de-identify it. If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we’ll tell you as soon as we can, and notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner where required.

Access, correction and closing your account

You can update your account details at any time. You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to close your account, by using our contact page or writing to us at Parcel Locker 10045 19443, Shop 101/6 Central Ave, Pialba QLD 4655. We may need to confirm who you are first. There’s no charge to ask. When you close your account, we delete your account details, but your forum posts may stay on the site without your username, as explained in our terms of use. You can ask us to remove personal details from your posts.

Children

You must be 16 or older to create an account. The guides can be read by anyone without giving us personal information.

Complaints

If you have a privacy concern, contact us first through our contact page and we’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
